Vaishno Devi, Jammu & Kashmir

Vaishno Devi is one of the most revered deities in Hindu culture. Her shrine is located in the scenic Trikuta Hills in Jammu & Kashmir, about 5,200 feet (1,585 meters) above sea level. The legend says that the location of the temple is where the head of Sati fell.

According to Hindu mythology, Vaishno Devi appeared in the form of a young girl to three brothers named Trikuta, Bhadra, and Saryu. They were tasked with finding and protecting her. After a long search, they found her in a cave in the Trikuta Hills, which then became the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Millions of devotees visit the temple each year by trekking a distance of about 12 km (7.5 miles). It is believed that every devotee should visit the temple at least once to seek Her blessings and offer prayers.
